Pt. Pandharinath Kolhapure was born on February 16th 1930 in the town of Pandharpur in Maharashtra state.

He started his elementary Talim in classical music as a child, under the able guidance of his renowned father the late Pandit Krishnarao Kolhapure (partner Balvant Natak Academy), who was also a well know Vocalist and Been (Veena) player of his time. He was also tutored by Pandit Madhusuden Joshi and Khansaheb Ata Husein, both well known for Gayaki of the Agra Gharana.

His performance was held at the All India Music Conference held in Baroda in the year 1941. Here he was blessed by Khansaheb Faiyaz Khansab, who was an aritist at the Baroda Darbar.

At the age of fifteen, Pandharinath gave his first performance on the Bombay station of All India Radio (A.I.R.). He hasn't looked back ever since. He continued his Talim under the guidance of Prof. B.R.Deodharji, a towering personality of his time and Pandt Kumar Gandharva.

Pt. Pandharinath is the author of Shiv Putra (in marathi, now in hindi), a vivid commentary on the life of Pandit Kumar Gandharva. Today Pt. Pandharinath continues teaching, doing riyaz and runs a trust called Veena Vardayini. He is also a member of the Akhil Bharatiya Gandharva Mahavidyalaya and the Samvad foundation.

Pt. Pandharinath lives in Mumbai with his wife Nirupama. He has three daughters; Shivangi, Padmini and Tejaswini.
