Pt.
Pandharinath Kolhapure born on February 16th, 1930 in the
town of Pandharpur in Maharshtra State.
He
started his elementary Talim in classical music as a child,
under the able guidance of his renowned father the late
Pandit Krishnarao Kolhapure (partner Balvant Natak Academy
along with Pt. Dinanath Mangeshkar), who was also a well
known vocalist and Been (Veena) player of his time. He was
also tutored by Pandit Madhusuden Joshi and Khansaheb Ata
Husein, both well known for Gayaki of the Agra Gharana.
His
performance was held at the All India Music Conference in
Baroda in the year 1941. Here he was blessed by Khansaheb
Faiyaz Khansaab, who was an artist at the Baroda Darbar.
At
the tender age of 15, Pandharinathji gave his first performance
on Bombay Station All India Radio (A.I.R). He hasnt looked
back ever since. He continued his tutelage under the guidance
of Prof. B. R. Deodharji, A towering personality of his
time and Pandit Kumar Gandharva.
Pt.
Pandharinath has authored three books first one being a
vivid commentary on the life of his guru Pt. Kumar Gandharva
titled "Gan yogi Shiv Putra".
Second book is a vivid account on his own life titled- "Shubd
Suranche Bol Rudra Veeneche"
His third and very recent book on Niyamat Khan - Sadarang
the very renowned 18th century singer and the creator of
Khyal Gayki. This book also contains a CD of Niyamat Khan
bandish sung in Panditjis own voice along with Dr. Satyashil
Deshpande and Srikant Dokrikar (Panditjis sudent)
He
is a member of Akhil Bharatiya Gandharva Mahavidyalaya and
the Samvad Foundation.
Today
Panditji proudly owns a 100 year old Veena passed on to
him by his father which originally belonged to Murad Khan.
He continues teaching, doing riyaaz and runs a trust called
Veena Vardayani founded in the year 2000. Through the trust
he was able to achieve the unachievable of convincing Mumbai
university to incorporate Diploma in Veena. This was started
in April 2009. He was able to tutor students through this
trust, those students are now independently doing performances.
These are just a few of his proud achievements and he still
continues to strive hard at this age and look ahead.
